lyrics

During my childhood full of strife
I never thought I’d live to love my life
From all the let downs that I had
I swore I’d never turn out like my dad

My first day of school I ran away
If stubborn was assessed I’d get an A
I was an angry little boy
Set to self-destruct as he grows
Who no one would have known

Would get to sixteen and meet a girl
I knew that I would marry her
despite what her father said cause of his reservations
I’d burn the past and change my life
I had to have her as my wife
Her father didn’t like my plan
and I can’t say that I blame him at all

I nearly died in 85’ my brother risked his life to save mine
But when he died in 93’ it lead me to a place of darkness
And no one would have guessed

I’d get to sixteen and meet a girl
I knew that I would marry her
despite what her father said cause of his reservations
I’d burn the past and change my life
I had to have her as my wife
Her father didn’t like my plan
but I can’t say that I blame him at all
I can’t say that I blame him at all

You’re just so pretty when you’re mad
But sometimes I overwind you just a tad
Like when I shrunk your woollen top
in the dryer with rest of your clothes
I’m learning as I go

I’ve known from sixteen about the girl
who loved me by some miracle
then chose to marry me
I’m sure it’s no vacation
I’ve proved to never let her down
Her father slowly came around
Initially he was wary
Cause it sure looked liked my life would derail
But I live to tell the tale
I got to sixteen
I got to sixteen
I got to sixteen
I got to sixteen
Now you understand what I mean
I never thought I’d live past sixteen
